Transformation Not Suppression

The goal is to transform negative tendencies, not merely suppress them.

Sikhism doesn't teach suppression of natural energies but their transformation. Desire becomes devotion to God, anger becomes passion for justice, attachment becomes divine love.

The five thieves, when under the Guru's control, become protectors.

Sikh Scholars, Traditional Interpretation

Transformation turns obstacles into aids on the spiritual path.
