The Inner Daemon
Each person has an inner divine companion — the rational faculty — which is the truest self and the source of moral guidance.
Stoics adapted the Socratic concept of the daimon to describe the ruling reason within each person. This inner rational guide is not supernatural but the highest expression of human nature. Honoring it means following reason rather than passion, habit, or convention.
Look within. Within is the fountain of good.
The Stoic daimon concept contributed to later Neoplatonist and early Christian ideas about conscience and the divine image in humanity.
