Teleological Universe
The cosmos has an inherent rational purpose; everything tends toward the good of the whole, even what seems harmful to the part.
Stoic cosmology is teleological — the logos directs all things toward the perfection of the whole. Individual suffering may serve the greater rational order. Understanding this prevents resentment against fate and opens the mind to seeing how even adversity contributes to the unfolding of a rational plan.
If it is not right, it does not happen. If it does happen, it is right.
Stoic teleology influenced Leibniz's concept of the best of all possible worlds and continues to generate philosophical debate about optimism.
