Change as Constant
The universe is in constant flux; the wise person adapts gracefully rather than clinging to fixed arrangements.
Heraclitus, admired by the Stoics, taught that all things flow. The Stoic understands that stability is an illusion and that all arrangements are temporary. Rather than being destabilized by change, the wise person adapts, finding in each new configuration fresh opportunities for virtue.
Loss is nothing else but change, and change is Nature's delight.
The Heraclitean influence on Stoicism connects it to Zen's emphasis on beginner's mind and Taoist wu wei as responses to constant change.
