Teaching by Example
The most powerful form of philosophical teaching is not argument but the example of a life lived according to principle.
Epictetus — himself a former enslaved person — taught philosophy with the authority of one who had practiced what he preached. He insisted that the philosopher teaches primarily through their life: if your philosophy does not show in your face, your posture, your manner, you have not yet understood it.
Let philosophy be stamped on your face.
Epictetus taught in the Enchiridion: do not talk about your philosophy — embody it, and let your actions show it.
