The Householder's Path
Spiritual realization is possible within worldly life.
The Upanishads recognize that householders can attain liberation. King Janaka ruled a kingdom while established in Brahman. Life's duties and Self-knowledge are compatible.
Even while performing action, the wise one remains established in Brahman.
Liberation does not require renouncing the world externally.
Brihadaranyaka Upanishad

- What the Upanishads say about the purpose of life
Liberation is not reserved for those who leave. The example given is King Janaka, who ruled while established in Brahman.
- What the Upanishads say about loneliness
King Janaka ruled while established in Brahman, and the Upanishads let him keep the kingdom. Nothing here requires withdrawing from people — the loneliness being addressed is not cured by leaving, and was not caused by staying.
