The Supreme Devotee
One who is free from malice toward all beings, friendly and compassionate, is very dear to Me.
Krishna describes the qualities of the ideal devotee: free from ill-will, friendly, compassionate, without possessiveness or ego, equal in pain and pleasure, forgiving, ever content, self-controlled, and devoted. These qualities flow naturally from true devotion—when the heart is full of God, there is no room for hatred or jealousy. This practical teaching shows that spirituality manifests in character, not just beliefs or practices.
One who is not envious but is a kind friend to all creatures, who does not think himself a proprietor, who is free from false ego and equal in both happiness and distress, who is always satisfied—such a devotee is very dear to Me.
These qualities describe natural outcomes of devotion, not requirements—as love matures, character naturally transforms.
