Rajas - The Mode of Passion
Rajas is born of unlimited desires and longings, binding the soul through attachment to action and its fruits.
Rajas guna produces activity, ambition, and restlessness. It drives achievement but also anxiety, never allowing satisfaction. The rajasic person is always doing, striving, wanting more. While rajas can fuel worldly success and even initial spiritual seeking, its attachments ultimately bind. The way forward is redirecting rajasic energy toward sattvic goals, gradually refining passion into purpose.
The mode of passion is born of unlimited desires and longings, and because of this one is bound to material fruitive activities.
Modern consumer culture exemplifies rampant rajas—endless striving that never satisfies. The Gita offers the antidote: redirect energy toward the eternal.
