Worship in Spirit and Truth

True worship transcends location and ritual, engaging the heart with God's reality.

Jesus tells the Samaritan woman, 'True worshipers will worship the Father in the Spirit and in truth, for they are the kind of worshipers the Father seeks.' Spirit refers to inward, heartfelt engagement empowered by the Holy Spirit. Truth refers to worship based on genuine revelation of who God is. Neither the Jerusalem temple nor Samaritan mountain is essential—what matters is authentic encounter with the living God. This teaching liberates worship from external forms while demanding internal reality. Form without spirit is dead; emotion without truth is deception.

Yet a time is coming and has now come when the true worshipers will worship the Father in the Spirit and in truth.

Jesus Christ, Gospel of John 4:23

A.W. Tozer wrote that 'worship is to feel in your heart and express in some appropriate manner a humbling but delightful sense of admiring awe.'
