Leadership as Service
Those in positions of power have greater obligations to serve the common good; power is a responsibility, not a privilege.
Marcus Aurelius embodied the Stoic ideal of leadership as service. Despite being one of history's most powerful rulers, he regularly reflected on his obligations to all Romans and humanity generally. Power amplifies the duty to serve rather than licensing self-indulgence.
Never esteem anything as of advantage to you that will make you break your word or lose your self-respect.
Stoic leadership ethics influenced the philosopher-king ideal and remains influential in modern servant leadership theory.
