Karuna - Compassion
The wish to free all beings from suffering and its causes.
Karuna goes beyond empathy to include the aspiration to actively relieve suffering. True compassion is not sentimental but wise, recognizing the causes of suffering and working to eliminate them.
If you want others to be happy, practice compassion. If you want to be happy, practice compassion.
Compassion is the active expression of bodhicitta.
